This project aims to clinically test VOSTARS, an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) hybrid video and optical seethrough head-mounted display (HMD), specifically designed for precision surgery, in the field of neurosurgical oncology. VOSTARS has been developed in the mainframe of a Horizon 2020 project, and it has been clinically tested for guiding maxillofacial osteotomies. Moreover, recent preclinical studies of our group confirm its accuracy and usefulness in navigating complex craniotomies. In this project we will demonstrate the reliability and feasibility of the VOSTARS platform as a tool to support different tasks in neurosurgical oncology, targeting supratentorial tumors, both intraparenchymal and extra-axial tumors (included en plaque cranial vault meningiomas): starting from patient positioning, scalp incision, and craniotomy, and including also tumor localization and exeresis.
