The training @EndoCAS is facilitated through cutting-edge commercial surgical simulators and research products developed by EndoCAS researchers.
EndoCAS is equipped with three virtual surgical simulators: one for laparoscopy (LapSim by Surgical Science), one for robotic surgery (dV-Trainer by Mimic), and one for endovascular surgery (Angio Mentor by Simbionix). Additionally, there are three box trainers for laparoscopy, which are also suitable for robotic surgery. Some of these simulators were kindly donated by the non-profit organization Fondazione ARPA.* Furthermore, EndoCAS has access to the facilities of the Multidisciplinary Center of Robotic Surgery, which hosts a da Vinci Skills Simulator by Intuitive Surgical.
The facility also provides commercial mannequins for BLS and BLSD courses.
Recently acquired physical simulators/task trainers include: Breast Examination Trainer; Female and Male Catheterization Simulators; Prostate and Rectal Simulator; Tube Feeding Simulator; Intravenous Arm Simulators; Arterial Puncture Wrist Simulator; Peripheral Venous Catheter Placement Simulator; US-1 Ultrasound Examination Training Model “ECHOZY”; Airway Suction Trainer; Internal Organ Anatomical Model; Gynecologic simulator; PICC, PIV, and Arterial Line Vascular Access Ultrasound Training Model; The Virtual Patient Screen-Based Simulator; Basic Open Surgical Skills Trainers.
Simulators developed by the EndoCAS research staff include:
- Ultrasound simulators
- Physical simulators for endovascular surgery,
- Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy simulator,
- Hip surgery simulators,
- Spine surgery simulator
In addition, EndoCAS researchers, are currently designing simulators for the following disciplines:
- Gynecological surgery (sarcocolpoplexy),
- Orthopedic surgery (Robotic knee surgery),
- Thoracic surgery (lobectomy),
- US-guided arterial puncture,
The learners who benefit from the activities carried out by EndoCAS include:
- Surgeons in practice and residents from different specialties (e.g., learners of courses in laparoscopic and robotic surgery);
- Physicians, and residents/fellows from other disciplines (e.g., BLSD );
- Medical students (e.g., learners of courses in suturing techniques, and participants of childbirth courses);
- Nurses (e.g. childbirth courses).
