Centro Multidisciplinare di Robotica ed. 30, Via paradisa, 2 56124 Pisa (PI)
Course presentation:
The tradition of microsurgery in Pisa dates back to 1976. Since then, many techniques have been described and the advent of robotic surgery is, once again, revolutionizing this ever-evolving field.
The course is aimed at surgeons in training or neo-specialists in surgical disciplines who can benefit from the knowledge of microsurgical techniques. The course briefly introduces anastomosis techniques assisted by the Da Vinci XI robot.
The course includes more than 20 hours of practical activity under the microscope, with the didactic progression envisaged by the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM, “Società Italiana di Microchirurgia).
Each student has the same equipment: jeweler’s forceps; micro scissors; a microsurgical clamp, a micro needle holder, and 8/0–9/0 sutures.
There is 1 tutor for every 2 students.
It is a 3-day course structured in :
Day 1, Lectures on:
- History of microsurgery and clinical applications
- Optics and instrumentation
- Basic microsurgical suturing techniques
- Main microsurgical flaps and their classification
- Anatomy of biological models and dissection technique
- Pathophysiology of injury and nerve regeneration
- Applications of robotic surgery in plastic surgery
Day 2, Hands-on sessions:
- on surgical gauze
- microsurgery training card with silicone tubular structures
- ex-vivo animal models
Day 3, Training session on the Da Vinci Xi robot simulator
